Coaching is like Teaching

When I was a young professional coach (largely unemployed), people would suggest that maybe I could be a teacher instead. I told them that I did not want to be a teacher, I wanted to be a coach, and that they are not the same thing at all. I'd like to apologise to all those people. Coaching is very much like teaching: Teaching young children bears no comparison to lecturing at a university. Teaching teenagers is also different. There are different knowledge bases and skillset. Assuming one could seamlessly do any of them based on their expertise in one is a mistake. There are experts in each area who should be recognised. It is the same in coaching. Teaching fundamentals to young children in order to give them the building blocks for the future, is completely different to teaching a special topic to a teenager or an even more specific topic at university.
